Digital Content - Finding and Creating

Book Store (Mac and iOS)

ibooks.jpeg

iBooks is an application that stores and allows you to read ebooks and other ePub resources. Books can be downloaded through the iTunes store or made on the devices (through applications such as iBooks Author or Book Creator) and exported to the iBooks application.

iBooks contain interactive elements called widgets that can promote and engage student interest. These widgets can
a) help to cater for students with different learning styles
b) allow students to read text, watch video, observe key teaching points to learn skills and movement sequences
c) allow students to record, compare and contrast performance against exemplar video (self and peer assessment)
d) allow students to move at their own pace through the materials
e) allow students to reflect on progress
Rather than just 'teaching skills', it allows a range of student outcomes to be further developed.

iBooks is available for iOS (iPhones, iPads) and macOS (mac laptops).

Finding iBooks in the iBooks Store

Search under iBooks application for some of the teaching resources available for free (some may have a particular cost) for your particular sport or interest.

Have a look at the Illicit Drugs book that can be found under the Library tab.

Searching
1. When you open the application, click on the" Book Store" tab at the bottom.
2. Use the "Browse Sections" on the top left hand side to find "Education".

Where else can I find content that is already created?

So what do you do if your school doesn't have iPads, iBooks, etc?
Keep looking for alternatives! There are plenty of excellent web based products that allow you to collect material that has been created for free.

cK-12 is an example of a web based application that has educational content for free.
Based mainly in Science, Maths and English, there are a number of resources also available for Health.
You can set and create activities for students, make textbooks, add interactive, etc.
